Some of you may know of the Jane Austen Challenge which is being hosted by Stephanie's Written Word. I have way too many books to read to join in the challenge, but I thought I'd do a little giveaway for those of you who are joining in.

I have a paperback copy of Laurie Viera Rigler's book Confessions of a Jane Austen Addict. You can read my review of the book and see if it's something you'd like to win.

The contest runs through August 14th and is open world-wide. The only rule: in your comment, tell me when you first started becoming a Jane Austen fan.

Good luck!

  1. I wonder what kind of confessions they are? Just posted about this on Win a Book; no need to enter me!

  2. Probably I saw a movie before I read a book - can't remember, but it would have been Pride and Prejudice. How could you not become a fan?!!!

    Please enter me!

  3. I must admit that I didn't really appreciate Jane Austen until adulthood. After several years of volunteering at a Shakespearean theatre, I discovered that I really enjoyed not only the Bard but also all that great English literature that I just scoffed at in high school. Now, I'm a definite Brit Lit addict! And the movies - my favourites are Sense and Sensibility (Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman) and Pride and Prejudice (Colin Farrell version).

  4. I remember reading Emma as a young teen and loving it so much. The Pride and Prejudice movies are always fun but I've never read the book. I plan to this fall though before my maternity leave is over!

  6. I first fell in love with the PBS P & P movie. I started to read more Austen after that.

Thanks for the giveaway. I really want to win this book. Thanks.

  7. I don't think I read Austen before I went to college -- a long time ago. And I can't be sure after all these years (lol!), but I'd be the first thing I read was PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. I'd love to read CONFESSIONS . . . Thanks for the chance to win your copy!

  8. I've been a Jane Austen lover for over twenty years so it's hard for me to pinpoint the exact moment it happened. I knew I was something of an addict myself when I watched "You've Got Mail" and thought it was perfect that Meg Ryan's character loved Pride and Prejudice and I knew exactly why!

  9. I became a Jane Austen fan when I saw the movie Sense and Sensibility.

  10. I definately became a fan of Jane Austen when I saw the movie Pride & Prejudice - before that I had heard of her but hadn't felt the magic.

  11. I remember reading an abridged version of Pride and Prejudice when I was 11, thinking it was very average. I watched the 2005 film version of Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen and got really awed by Austen. The rest is history.

  12. I first read Pride and Prejudice in high school because it was one of my mother's favorite books (and constantly on hand). I reread it in college and after college and it was lovely each time. Now, close to 20 years from the first time I read Jane Austen it's still so fresh.

  13. My grandpa gave me Pride and Prejudice when I was twelve or so. I didn't crack it open until ten years ago after I saw the Colin Firth version of Mr. Darcy. I doubt there is a sexier character in Literature (atleast for me). After Pride and Prejudice it is a slippery slope, I think I've read all her other novels (even P & P & Zombies for which she is credited as a co-author). Thanks!
